Photoshoots for Vibrato and Rheuben Allen Saxophones

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of photoshoots, interviews (both for Nivo Deux and for Teen Jazz), performances and that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

U-Nam is working on a new album, so I’ve been in the studio recording saxes when I’m not practicing, writing for Teen Jazz or performing. There are quite a few great songs on the project and I’m just as excited as he is about it.

I love when things are busy like this. It’s really motivating and it definitely keeps you on your toes!

A side note, my birthday is this Sunday and so I’m doing something special for those of you on my mailing list. If you’re curious what it’s going to be, or if you want in, be sure to sign up before midnight on Saturday night!

And, of course, check out the photos from my latest photoshoot!

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, and Some Blues

The past couple weeks I’ve been working on something in secret. Sort of. I’ve posted a few updates on Facebook and Instagram about what I’ve been up to, but you know how it is with Facebook – sometimes only 3 people see any posts from your pages. Sigh.

So, I’ll give you a bit of a hint…

And maybe another…

And one last one for good measure…

Yup. I’m back in the studio recording!

It’s not a full album by any stretch so far, only a couple of songs, but I’m having a ton of fun working on them. And… They are both instrumental! It has been a while since I’ve put anything instrumental out (not since Falling Slowly), and I am totally loving recording sax again.

I’m not ready to spill all the details regarding what I’m working on, but I’ll give away a few things…

1. A lot of what I’ve been working on as part of my project 365 is going to show up on the recordings

2. There is at least one cover and one original (maybe more – but I’m not telling)

3. There’s some flute and maybe a bit of background vocals, but a whole lot of saxophone!

So the new? My original song. The old? Going back to playing sax. The borrowed? The cover song. The blues? 🙂

One final quick update – I’ve recently launched a podcast as part of Teen Jazz and Teen Jazz Radio. It’s available on iTunes and through the Teen Jazz websites. I would really love it if you checked the podcast out. Let me know what you think and maybe even send me a question to answer in one of the next sessions!

Thank you all for reading!

Teen Jazz is Back

And it’s better than ever.

For those of you who don’t know, I’ve run a site for up coming musicians called Teen Jazz since 2004. I love managing the site and being a part of the community and nothing would make me happier than you all becoming a part of it. Teen Jazz features a lot of different articles – it used to have 100s, but a lot of them are being edited since I wrote the majority of them while I was in high school – and it also features emerging AND established artists.

Some of the articles include album reviews, concert reviews, equipment reviews, advice for young musicians, and other fun music related news. I’d also love it if any one here would be interested in contributing an article or two to the web site – any sort of review or advice that is music related. If you have an idea, please feel free to get in touch with me.

In the meantime, check out Teen Jazz.
